I simply can’t say enough good things about the Special Education Staff at Orton. They have been so helpful in my daughter’s educational journey. They are incredibly accommodating and willing to work with parents. The teachers at Orton also seem very open to collaborating with parents and doing what is best for students. My daughter’s reading has improved significantly after only one year at Orton, and I’m sure it will continue to improve this year as well. This place may be small, but the staff are definitely making a big impact!! So grateful for this school!

Orton Academy is an absolute jewel to our family. Our son struggled for years at a traditional school. He was bullied, angry and frustrated. He hated school and became depressed. After getting a diagnosis of Dyslexia, we enrolled him into Orton. The staff is so welcoming and they truly understand what these kids need and have been through. They understand the emotional trauma, as many of them have lived through it themselves. They are trained professionals to reach them academically with excellent strategies and curriculum. Now, our son can read. For those who understand, that is a tremendous sentence. His confidence has completely transformed and he is flourishing.

Both my children attend Orton. My daughter entered 3rd grade reading at a 2nd percentile reading level. This would put her at a early Kindergarten skill level. We had tried everything with her to help her along, her pervious school had her in small group interventions and reading groups, we read to her each night and nothing worked. Except Orton. She ended 3rd grade reading at a 3rd grade level!!! And we cant wait to see her progress for 4th grade and how her spelling progresses. My older son also found success in the small class size and the diligent teachers and SPED dept. Thank you Orton! Academically, Orton is challenging, they do not have a long lunch, very little recess, not a lot of art/music...but they do have gym each day and they receive 1hour of Take Flight intervention in a small group, and they also have WIN time which is a nice time for them to decompress in the classroom.

Thank you to the incredible staff that has helped our son. We need schools like this since 1 out of 5 people have dyslexia. This school offers an hour of Take Flight therapy everyday!!!! The teachers know how to teach to these learners.

The fact that this school exists for students with dyslexia or that fit a dyslexic learning profile and is FREE is life changing! This kind of school should exist in every city and be available to all students and I'm incredibly grateful that we've been able to send our son here from opening day. Every student receives Take Flight reading therapy by a CALT (certified academic reading therapist) daily during their school day! No more sending your already stressed out learner to expensive tutoring sessions outside school hours. The fact that this school goes up to 8th grade is incredible as well, as it catches student's that are behind at a higher grade level. No choicing in, ALL STUDENTS are accepted to this incredible school. I've never seen such a hard working staff and a place where all learners are valued and accepted.
